Oral Surgery

Oral surgery refers to any medical procedure performed on the mouth with specific regard to the teeth, jaw, and/or gums.

Depending on the type of procedure being performed, it may be done by your general dentist in their practice (e.g., simple tooth extraction), or by an oral surgeon/dentist in special interest in a referral clinic or hospital setting (such as removal of wisdom teeth, surgical extractions and patients with complicated medical histories).

There is no cost for NHS patients referred via NHS pathway if this treatment is part of a full course of dental treatment with the referring dentist.

KSS IMOS currently provide the following oral surgery procedures. All treatments we carry out are under local anaesthetic (injection in the gum only – not general anaesthetic or sedation):

  • Assessment (Consultation) of oral-facial and dental structure
  • Simple tooth/root extraction
  • Surgical tooth/root extraction
  • Third molar (wisdom tooth) extraction
  • Apicectomy
  • Implants

Other more complex oral surgery treatments may be carried out in hospital/specialist clinics
